Postal Auction NO 4PREVIEW 2
|
|
A very rare offering, this lot comprises the complete contents of the SS Cars owner's pack as presented to
new owners on taking delivery of their car in model year 1938-39. It comprises: Instruction Book,
an unused set of Service Vouchers, a guarantee (uncompleted) and the correct Maintenance Chart.
Apart from the envelope, all items are in fine, near mint condition. It is many years since I last saw such
a group, let alone one in such good condition.

This autumn 1945 matt black card wallet contains reprints from Motor and Autocar,
reviewing the Jaguar programme for model year 1945-46. The inside flap contains three illustrated
cards showing the 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 litre saloons, with outline specs on the reverse.
A price list is tipped in on the opposite flap and includes the 1.5 litre Special Equipment saloon.

|
The small XK 120 Special Equipment brochure is one of scarcest XK sales literature items.
A self-covered 8-page booklet, it is printed in an unusual brown-tone colour.
Two illustrations show a drop-head coupe and the XK engine. Text includes overall
specifications and detailed notes on the XK engine. This lot is in particularly
good condition and, specifically, does not suffer from the usual rusty staples.

|
This Swallow Hornet folder complements the SS II folder shown in Gallery 1. Both were issued during 1931.
That was the year when, uniquely, all three SS Cars product lines: Swallow Sidecars, Swallow Coachbuilding and SS Cars,
were advertised using folders with virtually the same design. This lot is in fine condition with little
of the usual weakness along the folds, typical of these 70 year-old items.

The SS Cars lead brochure for the 1934-35 model year. A fine 24-page brochure printed in black,
white and spot green, with an extensive range of illustrations, including several of the cars in
competition during the 1933-34 season. Coverage includes the Alpine Rally, the Scottish Rally, the
Scarborough Trial and Rally, Shelsley Walsh, etc. Full descriptions of all SS I and SS II models: coupe,
sports coupe, open two-seater and saloon; detailed price lists for cars and extras; detailed colour scheme options.
Bound in a thick card cover embossed with the year "1934" and the SS Cars hexagon motif in gold and green.
Secured with a beige cord. A key item in any collection of SS Cars literature
|
|
The SS Cars lead brochure for the 1935-36 model year. Successor to the item above
and another key brochure. 20 pages of text plus dramatic black, white and silver illustrations.
Competition successes highlight the Alpine Rally once more. Importantly for the brochure collector, this item
introduces the SS Airline Saloon. Car prices are omitted this year, but the priced list of extras is longer,
the colour schemes include a separate section for the Airline and the text of the SS Cars guarantee is shown on the last page.
Bound in a thick card cover with a thinner card inter-leaving between the cover and the text. "Metallic" silver finish on the
outer cover, bearing a silver and black metal foil SS Cars hexagon.

XK 140 brochure. 12 pages including four airbrush illustrations of the open two-seater,
the fixed-head coupe and the drop-head coupe with the hood up and down. Detailed specifications,
two pages on the XK engine, monotone photos of specific features and detailed colour schemes. Bound
in thick card cover with an eye-catching front design in black, white and spot red, plus the XK 140 bonnet
badge in bronze. This brochure is becoming increasingly difficult to find in fine condition. This lot is of that quality

|
The SS Cars lead brochure for the 1939-40 model year. Dramatic airbrush illustrations of the
3.5 litre Saloon, the 2.5 litre Drop-head Coupe, the 1.5 litre Saloon, the SS 100 and both the
1.5 litre and 2.5 litre chassis. Usual illustrated listing of competition successes, grid of colour
scheme options and price list of extras. SS Cars guarantee given on last page.
