SECTION K
THE XK SPORTS CARS (*all estimates in Pounds Sterling)
Posters, Prints, etc.
K/1 - An original factory showroom poster celebrating the record-breaking 7-day XK 120 FHC run at Montlhery which ended on 12 August 1952. A most elegant item illustrated with Roy Nockolds' striking and dramatic image of the car running high on the Montlhery banking at dawn. .
The poster measures 24 ins by 36 ins. It was printed by the Factory contractor: Adams Brothers and Shardlows, at Leicester. The vendor has owned the poster since it was removed from the showroom wall. It therefore comes to sale with impeccable provenance and in Fine, near Mint condition. It has been dry-mounted on barrier board to maintain this condition.
This is one of the most sought-after post-war Jaguar posters. The last one I saw at auction fetched £950 at Brooks on 12 February 1994. The present lot is in comparable condition. (e£800-£950)
K/2 - "Summer of 1950" A limited edition print of Alan Fearnley's sensuous painting of a leggy lady sitting on a river bank and dipping a toe in the flowing stream. XK 120 open two-seater is behind along with hubby (I presume) and the remains of a picnic lunch. Great stuff and much more evocative of the era than Fearnley's later E Type painting in the same style. Signed by the artist in pencil, and numbered. Generally in Fine condition but creased in lower margin (does not touch the image). (e£20-30)
K/3 - XK 120 racing roadster. 17 x 1 1 . Three quarter front view. Limited edition b/w print. Indecipherable signature of artist in pencil. Print numbered 31 of 100. Mint. (e£20-30)
K/4 - XK 1 20 roadster. 17 x 1 1 . Cropped head-on view. Limited edition b/w print. Indecipherable signature of artist in pencil. Print numbered 45 of 100. Mint. (e£20
K/5 - "The 3 1/2 Litre Jaguar XK 120 Two-Seater". Original b/w Jaguar showroom photo-poster from the early 1950s. Image is 19 x 14. Overall size 24.5 x 20. Shows high three-quarter front shot of open car. Winged Company logo at top and title at foot. S1 creasing to left and right. but wide margins mean this can be trimmed away, or lost in mounting and framing. Fine, nr Mint. Unusual in this condition. (e£50-75)
